Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about how GradVox works — and why we built it this way.

Doesn't video screening increase the risk of unconscious bias and discrimination?+

Traditional recruitment is rarely truly blind. Recruiters and hiring managers regularly make assumptions based on university names, graduation years, or even home addresses. At GradVox, we remove those hidden biases by hiding personal contact information and providing a randomised candidate feed. This ensures every graduate gets an equal, human viewing. Rather than letting an automated AI bot reject a CV based on keywords, our platform brings the human element back to early-stage hiring, giving you a real chance to connect. Please note, even after the shortlisting is done, candidates still have a choice to apply or not to the jobs the recruiters reach out to them about.

Is this format unfair to introverted or highly technical candidates?+

Every graduate role requires a basic level of professional communication. A 45-second pitch is not a talent show or an acting audition; it is simply a brief introduction to your drive and enthusiasm. In fact, many candidates find our platform less stressful than a traditional interview. You are in complete control of your environment, allowing you to record your pitch in your own space when you feel most comfortable and confident.

Do students with better cameras, lighting, or nicer homes have an unfair advantage?+

Not at all. We have a strict policy that completely bans pre-recorded file uploads. Every video must be recorded live through the GradVox app or website using standard smartphone or webcam tools. This levels the playing field completely. Wealthier candidates cannot hire professional video editors or use studio spaces. Furthermore, our partner employers look for raw potential, authentic personality, and core communication skills — not expensive production quality.

Is 45 seconds really enough time to judge a candidate's potential?+

Did you know that recruiters spend an average of just 6 to 10 seconds glancing at a traditional paper CV? A 45-second video pitch actually gives you more of a recruiter's focused attention than a written resume ever would. Think of your pitch as a high-impact hook. It is designed to capture the employer's interest and show off your personality, which then prompts them to unlock and review your full academic details and qualifications.

Why can't I just upload a pre-made video resume?+

We enforce live recordings to protect the integrity of the platform. Pre-recorded videos invite over-rehearsed scripts, professional editing, and artificial enhancements. We believe employers hire people, not polished video productions. By keeping the process live and spontaneous, we ensure that every graduate is judged on their genuine self, keeping the entire marketplace fair, authentic, and equal for everyone.

What if I am non-verbal or communicate using sign language?+

GradVox is committed to accessibility, and we fully welcome video pitches delivered in British Sign Language (BSL) or Irish Sign Language (ISL). We are actively developing integrated automated translation and subtitling tools for our future platform updates. In the meantime, pitches utilizing sign language receive the exact same randomised feed priority as all other profiles, ensuring completely equal visibility. If you require specific adjustments or assistive technology support to complete your pitch, please contact our support team.
